What is CBT?

CBT stands for Compulsory Basic Training – your essential first step to riding a motorcycle on the Island's stunning roads. A valid CBT certificate is legally required on the Isle of Man before you can ride on public roads, and it’s valid for two years. RideSafe.im also offers CBT renewals, making sure you stay road-legal and safe.

Your CBT training starts at their Port Soderick site, a controlled environment where you'll learn the basics of bike control before heading out onto the road with your instructor. The course typically lasts around 4 hours, and all sessions are one-to-one, ensuring you receive focused support every step of the way.

Go Beyond CBT

Once you’ve completed your CBT, you’ll be able to ride on the road as a learner rider. But that’s just the beginning! RideSafe offers full motorcycle licence training and even advanced riding courses – a first for any motorcycle school on the Isle of Man.

Unlike the UK, the Isle of Man requires only one motorcycle test to gain your full licence – RideSafe can take you all the way.
